How it works: from free design visit to fitting day

The design visit

The design visit is free and there is no obligation at the end of it. Aaran comes to you at a time that suits, evenings and weekends included, and you should allow about an hour.

He starts by listening. What do you need to store, what annoys you about the room now, which side of the bed do you sleep on, do you want a dressing table, a desk, somewhere for the television. Then he measures the room properly, including the things a quick tape measure misses: a ceiling that falls away towards the window, walls that are not quite square, coving, sockets and radiators.

While he is still with you he draws the furniture in 3D on screen, in your room’s exact dimensions, so you can see it and change it before anything is ordered. Move a drawer bank, swap hinged doors for sliding, add a shelf for the hats. It is far easier to get this right in front of you than over the phone a week later.

He also brings the samples. There is no showroom, so you choose door styles and colours against your own walls and carpet, in your own light.

The quote

After the visit Aaran prices the design and sends your quote as a private link, so you can read it on your phone and share it with whoever else needs to see it.

It is one figure that includes everything, fitted, including the fitting itself. The quote is valid for 30 days, which is long enough to think it over, show your partner and ask us anything.

Take whatever time you need. We won’t follow up unless you ask.

When you are ready, you accept the quote from the link and we book the order in.

Ordering and lead time

Once you have accepted, Aaran places the order. Every panel is made to your room’s measurements and to our specification by established furniture manufacturers in Leicestershire, with soft-close hinges and drawers.

From your go-ahead to fitting day is usually 6 to 8 weeks. We agree the fitting date with you when you order and confirm it again in the days before. If anything about the room changes in the meantime, new carpet, a radiator moving, a socket added, tell us before the order goes in so the measurements still hold.

Fitting day

Most rooms are fitted in one to three days; we’ll tell you exactly at the design visit.

Before we arrive, empty the old wardrobes and drawers and clear the wall we are working on, with a path to it. Move anything delicate out of the room. If you have old fitted furniture to come out, tell us at the design visit and we’ll include it.

On the day Aaran brings the furniture in and fixes the carcases level and plumb. Then comes the part that makes it bespoke: every filler and end panel is scribed to your walls and ceiling on site, to the millimetre, so the furniture meets uneven plaster and coving with no gaps and no blanking strips. Cutting on site means some dust. We cover the floor and anything we cannot move, work tidily and keep to the room we are in, take all packaging and offcuts away, then clean down and hoover the room, leaving your new furniture ready for you to enjoy.

Then he hangs and adjusts every door, fits the handles and the interiors, and walks you round it before he leaves.

Afterwards

Every job is covered by the guarantee shown above. Doors can move a fraction as a house settles or the seasons change. If a door needs adjusting within the guarantee, the person who fitted it comes back.

Looking after your furniture

Your furniture needs very little care, and a few simple habits keep it looking as it did on fitting day.

• Everyday cleaning: wipe doors and panels with a soft microfibre cloth, damp rather than wet, with a little mild washing-up liquid in warm water if needed. Then dry with a clean, dry microfibre cloth.
• Supermatt doors: wipe gently and dry straight away to avoid streaks. Fingerprints lift off with a damp cloth.
• Spills: wipe them up straight away, and don’t leave water sitting on edges or joints.
• What to avoid: furniture polish or wax, scourers, abrasive creams, bleach and solvents. They can dull or mark the finish.
• Heat and steam: keep irons, clothes steamers, kettles and heaters away from the doors, and don’t hang damp clothes on them. Strong heat or steam can lift the edges of wrapped doors.
